It is a thing of beauty when you can spend an hour or two completely revamping a machine and not worry about backups.  The Acer Aspire One is perfect for experimenting with new operating systems!  The trick is to leave the 4GB SD card alone and use it for storing things you'd rather not lose.  The 8GB internal SSD is just for the OS and any other cool plugins I can find to play with.

First impression:  It was very easy to get everything to work!  I'll let you know more about it later this week as I get to play with it more, but it seems to boot quick, utilize all of the hardware well, and hasn't crashed yet.

I'm glad to see Fedora 10 loads so well on this box. I recently bought a couple of eMachines dm620 boxes for my kids, and Fedora 10 loads nicely on them also. The boot time is right about 30 seconds.

How long is boot time for the Aspire?

David,

Glad to hear that the kids got some new machines and that they're getting the Wilkins Linux Immersion!

I've done some tests on the AAO and with no tweaking I'm looking at 52 seconds from pressing power to logging in. There are a couple of tweaks that I can do to get it down and I'll let you know how fast I can get it.
